Attachment adaptations are brilliant and adaptive, but they aren’t without cost. Insecure attachment means something was needed, but not received. When we understand the neurobiology of attachment, we can see our children with more clarity and compassion, allowing us to meet their hope (to be safe, seen, soothed, and secure***) instead of their expectations.
