What Behavior Really Is: A Neuroscience Based Paradigm Shift for Understanding Dysregulated Behavior
The fast emerging field of relational neuroscience is creating a needed paradigm shift in understanding children’s challenging behaviors. When we understand what the real problem is (what’s happening in the nervous system!), it becomes much more likely that the implemented strategies will be effective. Attendees will leave feeling inspired to see behaviors through a new lens and empowered by the belief that changing how we see kids’ behaviors is the most important strategy of all.

The Power of Partnering with Parents
Many professionals who work with children need some additional support to feel confident working with parents. Partnering with parents improves outcomes, empowers parents, supports the important connection between children and parents. The workshop will help solidify your beliefs that working with parents, when possible, is the key to creating change in kids and families. You’ll feel confident you can address sensitive topics, including the trauma that families have experienced from professionals in the past and working with parents without leaving them feeling shamed or blamed.

Working with Resistant Parents
Parents of kids with dysregulated behaviors are stressed and dysregulated themselves, leading to behaviors that we label resistant or challenging. When we understand the neuroscience of behavior and take a nervous-system approach to challenging behavior, including parent behavior, we can take a more compassionate approach. This increases professional effectiveness in creating caregiver change while decreasing burn-out and compassion fatigue.
