John Bowlby’s dramatic impact on theories of human development has continued to grow throughout the decade of the brain, leading us toward a greater understanding of the neurobiology of attachment. This intermediate/advanced three-day workshop will deepen your relationship with attachment theory, moving a left-brain categorical understanding into a whole-brain embodied experience. We will explore the foundations of attachment theory and then move into what happens neurobiologically when attachment goes wrong.

Attendees will develop a felt sense for the way pockets of attachment (secure and insecure) become alive in the play therapy room, both with and without parent involvement. We will discuss ways to harness the power of attachment during individual and parent/child dyadic play therapy sessions while inviting play therapists to use their own creativity and intuition when engaging in both directive and non-directive play therapy. During our three days together, participants will be invited to lean into their own felt sense of attachment through experiential activities.

Attendees should be prepared for a rich and experience of self-exploration. Both Marshall and Robyn are fully committed to the truth that cultivating a grounded, dynamic, and mindful presence in the therapy room is the most important work we do as therapists. This three-day retreat style training is designed to create felt-safety so participants can lean into their own felt-sense of attachment. We will do this through didactic lecture & discussion and experiential activities involving art and journaling. Attendees will participate in partner pairs to deepen their felt-sense of the resonance and presence we are working to cultivate through exploring our own experiences of attachment.

FAQs

No way!!! This training is for ANYONE who works with children in a therapeutic setting! You definitely do not need to be a play therapist to benefit from this training!

This is a highly interactive, experiential training. You’ll work closely with other participants and your presence matters!! Please make arrangements to attend the training in it’s entirety.

No partial CEs will be awarded. You must attend the entire training in order to receive CEs.

In this live, online training, attendance will be tracked. You will be required to keep your webcam whenever we are not taking a break.

Both Marshall and I have taught online a LOT! It has surprised me how we can still feel connected and have an excellent learning experience, even online, especially if we are conscientious about a few specific things.

Attendees will be required to have their webcams on the entire time and to be present at their devices. This will be monitored. Attendees will be asked to forego distractions, such as answering the telephone, in the same way you would in a live training. Microphones will be muted to reduce background noise but can easily be unmuted to ask questions.

Throughout our three days together, attendees will regularly break up into small groups, dyads, and triads, just like we would in person.

A list of materials to have available for experiential activities will be provided approximately one week before the training. Materials will be typical child/play therapy materials, including paper and art supplies.

Both Marshall and I are deeply passionate about helping therapists lean into the truth that they are the most important “tool in their toolbox.” Tracking ourselves while tracking our clients is an important therapeutic skill that can be learned! But first we have to get deeply in touch with ourselves!

EEK! That sounds like an intense training!

You know- it’s interesting because yes it IS intense but overwhelmingly participants have told us how they have never felt so energized and grounded at the end of a training. We are thoughtful about creating felt-safety, identifying boundaries, and communicating that all parts of welcome.

While I can promise you that you will receive a LOT of information (about neurobiology, attachment, play therapy, AND yourself) the content of this training will be delivered in a slower and more experiential manner, designed to support integration and application.

Of course!  Just email Robyn and we will work it out!

The webinars will be hosted on Zoom- you can download Zoom here: https://zoom.us/download

and read about Zoom here: https://zoom.us/

You need high speed internet and should be able to login from your laptop or desktop. Because of the length of this training, I HIGHLY recommend you participate via laptop or desktop computer, and NOT a mobile device.

You MUST use a webcam and a microphone. Most computers have built in webcams and microphones.

Not sure if yours does? See if the information in this article helps: https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-tell-if-you-have-microphones-webcam-on-your-laptop

You will receive a link- on the morning of the training, you will just click on the link!!

This three-day training will not be available by recording. This is a LIVE virtual, live-time, synchronous training.

What attendees have said!

Both presenters were amazing and I would’ve loved to have picked their brains all day.

I loved how the trainers openly discussed with one another and flowed so beautifully back and forth. I also felt like the trainers genuinely cared about us.

….The playfulness of the trainers throughout.

I also really loved how Robyn and Marshall really create a beautiful balance of content and experience.

The presenters were engaging and made the material interesting and easy to follow.

Robyn and Marshall were hilarious and down to earth. It made the training enjoyable.

I loved the warmth brought in by both instructors. It made the environment safe and enjoyable for learning.

The leaders (Marshall & Robyn) were so clearly knowledgeable.

Praise from previous Embodying the Neurobiology of Attachment

I really enjoyed how relaxed and comfortable the environment was. I attend many trainings, and most will just stress you out more at the end! I felt very relaxed and at ease with the atmosphere here. The outdoor setting was also very welcome and peaceful.

I loved and appreciated the opportunity to learn while being myself and having “all my parts” completely accepted. I also found the experiential format of the training invaluable.

I really appreciated the that the training was broken up with multiple breaks and opportunities for more right-brained connection instead of being solely left-brained lecture. Usually I leave trainings feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, even if I loved the information. But I left THIS training feeling better than I had in the days leading up to it.

I loved the format of taking time to learn and then pausing for the non-dominant hand drawings and reflection. As a person who generally processes things a bit slower, this format really allowed me to sink into what we were learning and gave me a much deeper connection to the material than any other training I can remember! Also, I loved how much laughter and joy was shared over the two days, and the authenticity of both Robyn & Marshall!

I most enjoyed the activities and application. I really enjoyed learning how attachment patterns can show up in the room, including our own attachment patterns.

I utterly loved your approach of putting us in touch with facets of our own attachment. That was brilliant! I learned an enormous amount about myself. The playroom activities at the end were deeply appreciated, as well. The amount of experience and deep understanding that you each brought to the training was evident in all of the work we did. I’m starting to incorporate that understanding with my clients already. Many thanks.
