Vulnerable Nervous Systems in the Classroom: A Brain-Body-Sensory Approach for Educators with Dysregulated Students

Sponsoring Organization: Henrico Public Schools

Date: September 28th, 2026

Time: 8:30am – 12:30pm eastern

Location: Henrico, VA

Description:
Trauma, toxic stress, and learning differences leads to sensitized stress response systems and vulnerability in the nervous system. This leads to an increase in challenging- and baffling!- behaviors. This day-long training will reframe what behavior really is (from the latest in behavioral and relational neuroscience) and explore how to change it. Attendees will leave with a new framework for making sense of baffling behaviors that can also be taught to students of all ages. You’ll feel equipped with both proactive and responsive strategies, as well as what to do when it feels like nothing is working.

During our time together, we will cover:

  • How to make sense of baffling behaviors based on relational neuroscience and nervous system science
  • How vulnerability and a sensitized stress response system impacts behavior
  • A simple framework to reframe behaviors- that can be taught to kids, too
  • Strategies to increase regulation (and improve behavior)
  • Strategies to respond to challenging and baffling behavior
  • What do we do when nothing is working
