A 3 Day Experiential Workshop for Helpers & Healers

Practice Presence.  Understand the Science.  Transform how you Show Up

The most important tool

you bring to your clients isn’t found in your clinical applications tool box.

The most important tool you bring to your clients is YOU

Our clients, patients and students arrive with one goal:

To feel better.

Something is causing enough stress in their lives that they are calling uncle,

throwing up the white flag,

and saying ‘please help me.’

A previous participant wrote:

Thank you so much

for coming to be with us. The science and the practice are transformative.

Thank you for modeling it and teaching us.

I’m super grateful for the concept of not bringing an agenda to relationships.

I have felt that strongly for decades

and it is fantastic to have so many things that I feel deeply and intuitively

confirmed by the science.”

You have a lot of great tools.

Tools that really help people!

Having a toolbox full of tools to draw from when working with suffering people is really helpful.

But ultimately our clients don’t feel better when you give them the perfect tool.

Clients feel better when they feel felt.

We’ve known for a long time

that the relationship

is the most important predictor of positive client change.

Being present with clients is the most powerful tool that amplifies all the other tools you already have.

But very rarely does anyone actually define relationship.

How can we be deliberate and intentional about cultivating resonance, relationship, and presence if we aren’t sure what those things are?

Or what they feel like?

Relational Resonance

The mutual influence of interacting systems on each other that allows two or more entities to become a part of one functional whole.

~Dan Siegel, MD

Joining with another without losing oneself in the other (merging) or remaining too separate (not touching).

I really can’t say enough gratitude around this!”

Hey there! I’m Robyn!

I’m a therapist, educator, trainer, consultant, and now- author!

I’m a little obsessed with studying the relational brain and then teaching everyone who will listen alllllllll about it.

Understanding what’s underneath behavior has changed everything- at work and at home.

I started studying relational neuroscience in 2011, including:

  • Hundreds (thousands?!) of hours of reading and personal study
  • Mindsight Institute with Dan Siegel, MD
  • IPNB Immersion with Bonnie Badenoch, PhD
  • In-depth consultation with Bonnie Badenoch PhD and Juliane Taylor Shore LPC-S, LMFT-S of IPNB Austin

and many, many more (1000 hours!) of trainings and study

I previously taught the Science of IPNB in the Foundations of IPNB Post-Grad Certificate program at Portland Community College

and served on the Global Association for IPNB (GAINS) Board of Directors.

Relational Neuroscience is at the heart of everything I do.

Founder & Creator of:

  • The Baffling Behavior Trianing Institute
  • Immersion Program for Professionals- a year-long neuroscience based certificate program for professionals who work with parents
  • The Club- a virtual community for parents of kids with big, baffling behaviors
  • The Baffling Behavior Show podcast

  • Chapter on Interpersonal Neurobiology in The Handbook of Complex Trauma and Dissociation in Children (edited by Ana Gomez and Jillian Hosey)

To bring our authentic & regulated selves into our work

we need these 3 things

1 ~ An understanding of the neurobiology of being human

both ourselves and our clients

2 ~ A toolbox full of tools

that emerge from the resonant in-between space

3 ~ A deep connection to ourselves

& strong energetic boundaries

In this highly experiential training

you’ll have the opportunity for self- exploration through journaling & non-dominant hand drawing.

No art experience is needed. All humans are creative! You can use the supplies offered- or not. You’ll choose. There’s no right or wrong.

Thank you

for not only presenting life changing information,

but also modeling how to walk in this life changing information.

It was a joy to my whole being to be with you

and everyone in the room.”

This three day event

will excite your geeky brain science loving parts, deep diving into things like

polyvagal theory, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and memory reconsolidation theory.

But even better than that

throughout our 3 days together you’ll experience

the same felt sense of safety & connection that you want to offer your clients.

Your brain will learn lots, but your body will learn more.

Here’s what you can expect!

We’ll move in out and of

full group lecture & discussion

small group connection

individual experiences of self-exploration through non-dominant hand drawings and journaling

 We’ll prioritize felt safety by

slowing down

consistently reassessing consent

welcoming all parts of you

…well unless it’s a part that’s negatively impactinging someone else’s experience, like throwing spit balls

The time, care, &

I could see  the power of your vulnerability as you spoke.

So much of what I learned put understanding

to how to grow my capacity while having good character

and care for myself to have the

overflow to serve others with excellence.”

Workshop Description:

This three-day intensive training integrates Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB) and Relational Neuroscience (including attachment theory, polyvagal theory, and memory processing theory) to deepen therapeutic presence and clinical effectiveness with clients impacted by relational and developmental trauma. Participants will explore the core principles of IPNB—including neural integration as the mechanism of health, the role of mirror neurons in therapeutic resonance, and how internal working models shape perception of safety—while learning to identify and work with the three autonomic states described in Polyvagal Theory (ventral vagal social engagement, sympathetic mobilization, and dorsal vagal shutdown). Clinicians will develop skills in therapist self-attunement and widening their window of tolerance to maintain presence when clients are dysregulated, recognizing that the therapist’s regulated autonomic state serves as the primary mechanism for co-regulation and change. Grounded in the principle that “safety is the treatment,” participants will learn to conceptualize client presentations through a polyvagal lens, understanding that all protective behaviors emerge from autonomic state and that tipping the balance toward cues of safety allows social engagement and integration to emerge naturally.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Conceptualize client behavior using the core principles of Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB)
  2. Explain how neurobiological responses to environmental cues shape behavior and connection-seeking
  3. Identify the three autonomic states of Polyvagal Theory
  4. Describe the ANS corresponding behavioral manifestations in clients
  5. Identify the distinction between neuroception and perception in evaluating safety cues from internal, external, and relational sources.
  6. Apply the concept of neural integration to understand client dysregulation
  7. Describe the neurobiological processes theorized to be involved in resonance
  8. Analyze how implicit mental models formed through early attachment experiences shape clients’ current perceptions of safety and relationships.
  9. Demonstrate strategies for maintaining therapist self-attunement and presence while resonating with client dysregulation.
  10. Design therapeutic interventions that prioritize felt-safety as the primary mechanism of change in trauma treatment
  11. Evaluate the relationship between therapist window of tolerance and capacity to provide effective co-regulation for dysregulated clients
  12. Apply integration practices to widen personal window of tolerance

FAQs

Nope!

In fact, technically, you don’t have to be a professional to attend this workshop. However, please note that we will be approaching resonance and presence through a professional paradigm. As long as you’re aware that’s the lens of the workshop, anyone is welcome.

No. This is a live, in-person event only.

Daily lunch will be on your own.

We offer a long, 75-minute lunch to give attendees time to leave for lunch.

We will have healthy snacks and beverages throughout all three days.

No, this experience is completely separate from Robyn’s parent coach trainings. Anyone is welcome. The workshop will be applicable to anyone in relationship, though we will be approaching the workshop through a professional lens.

If you’d like an in-depth training to support your work with parents and caregivers (including access to a parent course and dozens of additional resources) consider applying for the Professional Immersion Program that Rose and Robyn teach based on Raising Kids with Big, Baffling Behaviors

Robyn previously taught this experiential workshop in 2023 in Bloomington IN and in 2024 in Detroit MI for Race Matters under the name “The Neurobiology of Being With.’

Presence in Practice is the same experience- renamed and expanded.

Nope! Although Robyn is best known for her work with kids and families, she has extensive experience working with folks of all ages. This experiential workshop will be applicable to anyone in a relationship. We will be approaching the workshop through the lens of working with folks professionally, but all are welcome.
